InnocenceI gingerly reach down into the shoebox and gently unfold this sacred relic of my childhood. The silk is so old and worn that it slips through my fingers as easily as sand. To Save A Hundred ThousandI am washing dishes. There are more than there should be after breakfast, but these are several days’ worth of dishes. I was supposed to wash them last night, but I had been doing more important things and had forgotten about trivial things like dishes. I dump them all into the washing tub and carefully pour hot water over them from the kettle that was heating over the cooking fire. The steam rises into my nose, suffocating me for a moment.
